Another scrappy effort on our part to pick up this win. We, once again, had relatively no offense to speak of. Just a few clutch hits when we needed them. Kopriva got a big lead off double in the top of the 8th, followed by a bunt by Pratt to get him to 3rd, and then a score on the throw after a SO. Evan was solid on the mound going the distance. The Academy ace, #5 Nichols, I believe is his name, did a good job as well. The run that we gave up in the 4th or 5th was unearned. Overall though, our defense did a pretty nice job. We just have to find a way to get something going offensively. Hopefully we can break that out this Friday against Lago.

Big games tonight for a lot of 2-4 teams. I don't believe Thorndale will be able to do very much with Jarrell. Florence & Academy need to pick up wins over 3rd place Lexington & Rogers.

This was the offensive outburst I had been waiting for ever since district had started, as we more than likely had over 20 hits on the night. Last year we would have probably had 4 or 5 HR's, but this year they just kind of die when you think they are going to go. Harrell also pitched another solid game, going the distance. Gave up a few runs in the 3rd or 4th, but did what he had to do to win the game. Lago Vista, from 1-5 has a pretty good hitting lineup, which is why I am not surprised to see them have a couple of district wins.

The 1st half of district went about like I thought it would, in terms or standings wise. Jarrell sits at the top at 7-0 with an overall record of 11-1(from a source...I believe this is when they got basically all their team back from basketball)? Jarrell has a solid 1/2 combo and the hitting lineup is good from 1-6 or so. Cameron Yoe sits at 5-2. During most of the 1st half of district the pitching and defense has carried the team. Offensively, we have not that well, but I hope after the performance we had against Lago Vista, combined with the fact that this is a very young team, we can break out in the 2nd half. Lexington at 4-3 does not surprise me. I had them a little lower going in, but they did finish 2nd in district last year, and went 3 games with Schulenburg. I personally think that offense is their strong point. Academy is a bit of surprise to some after only winning a game or two last year, but the younger talent is starting to step in. I know they have around 4 freshmen starting, so if you are them, you have to happy at where you are. The main strong point for this team is the pitching. Their SR. ace has held some good teams in check and kept them in ballgames. Many might think Rogers would have fared a little better than 3-4, but they are somewhat of a young team like us and Academy. I know they have about 3 senior starters and then the rest are sophs and freshmen. Offense is what Rogers will rely on in the 2nd half. The pitching is okay with Fritz as the ace, but I think they will need to score a good amount of runs to make the playoffs. Florence, at 3-4, has been somewhat of and up and down team so far. One game they will play solid, then the next they kind of fall off a bit. If they find that consistency, they could find there way into of of the 3 playoff spots. Lago Vista will need big time production out of their offense to make a push in the 2nd half. Thorndale has been a bit of a surprise to me. In games I have seen, they have just made too many errors that are not allowing their pitchers to compete.

The game with Jarrell last night was a tough loss for us. Offensively, there was not much from both teams. The Yoemen got on the board in the 4th, with a RBI double by Sapp. They held that lead until the bottom of the 6th, when Jarrell was finally able to push across 2. Harrell, for Cameron pitched a heck of a game early on. After pitching a complete game on Friday, he made the quick turnaround for this game. He looked like he started to get tired there towards the end of the 5th, after throwing well over 100 pitches Friday and over 100 last night. The Jarrell pitcher, Cooper, did a good job at shutting us down like he has every other team he has pitched against. He was throwing consistently in the upper 80s, probably with a few hitting the lower 90s at times. He had a few problems with his off-speed, but if he keeps locating his fastball, then he will control every team he pitches against.
